Department of Architecture was established in 2011 with the aim of moulding architecture students into high calibre professionals. It started with an intake of 40 students, under the directions of the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Kerala, with the benevolence of the then Chief Minister of Kerala Shri. Oommen Chandy. The Department offers 5 years Bachelors programme in Architecture (B Arch). The programme is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University from 2016 onwards. The B Arch programme comprises of ten semesters and is conducted as per the norms of the Council of Architecture, New Delhi. Admission to B Arch course is based on the performance of candidates in NATA and qualifying exam only, with both given equal weightage. The Course equips the students for the profession with its six months training and tenth semester thesis..
The department’s strength lies in the highly qualified faculty. Majority have obtained their higher qualifications from premier institutions in India in disciplines of City planning, Architectural Conservation, Building technology and Construction Management, Urban Design, Environmental planning to name a few.
Through the years, the department has produced toppers at University level and has always remained active on extra-curricular level by participating at various architectural competitions and other events. The Department, since its inception, has been associated with various social and development projects. Students have been actively participating in ZONASA, the zonal convention of the National Association of Students of Architecture and Annual NASA convention. This is a student association, for the undergraduate students of Architecture in India which provide a platform where students from varied cultural backgrounds would learn and share their knowledge..
Most of the alumni are practising architects having their own firms. Some of them have pursued higher studies in IIT, SPA, CEPT and top ranked foreign Universities.
The department periodically organizes short term courses and workshops to train faculty and students on various emerging trends in architecture. Renowned architects, academicians, town planners, urban designers are invited to the department for delivering lectures under visiting faculty schemes. The students are exposed to the professional environment by having professional training for six months during the course.
The department strongly believes in the collaboration of academicians and professionals in design studios where the practical experience of the architects and the critical thinking of academicians can help the students in a more fruitful way.

The department strives for the development of the student so as to equip him or her to be a socially responsible architect. They are given exposure to local construction practices, sustainable techniques in construction and building management system. The students as well as faculty are encouraged to undergo training and workshops in latest software so as to equip with the latest industry practice. Students are encouraged to participate in technical as well as cultural competitions. They are also encouraged to explore various avenues like clay modelling, mural painting, craft making, installations and paper sculpting. We have a good team of faculty members who work towards motivating and guiding the students.
