Government of Kerala has started Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1991 with the intension of making it a center for post graduate and research studies. After 30 years of its existence, RIT has now become a sought after centre for doctoral studies. RIT is an AICTE approved centre for Ph. D under QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) and ADF (AICTE Doctoral Fellowship) schemes. The doctoral programmes at RIT are currently affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). There are approved Ph. D guides in all the departments of RIT. Majority of the full time Ph. D scholars receive fellowships from various government schemes sponsored by KTU, Higher education, ADF etc.
