Department of Architecture was established in 2011 with the aim of moulding architecture students into high calibre professionals. It started with an intake of 40 students, under the directions of the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Kerala, with the benevolence of the then Chief Minister of Kerala Shri. Oommen Chandy. The Department offers 5 years Bachelors programme in Architecture (B Arch). The programme is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University from 2016 onwards. The B Arch programme comprises of ten semesters and is conducted as per the norms of the Council of Architecture, New Delhi. Admission to B Arch course is based on the performance of candidates in NATA and qualifying exam only, with both given equal weightage. The Course equips the students for the profession with its six months training and tenth semester thesis..

ARCHITECTURE is an interdisciplinary language that aims in finding the most effective design solutions for problems related to the built environment for the betterment of society. More than a profession, Architecture is a Lifestyle of conscious commitment in the upliftment of human comfort in all areas of concern as social, economic, and environmental aspects of human interaction. Architectural Design education focuses on a broad range of perspectives linking several common concerns to the built environment such as site and context, functionality, and aesthetics, building methods and materials, etc.

The department of Architecture in RIT inculcates in training students with an interdisciplinary and collaborative curriculum with the notion of creating in students an analytical rigor with curiosity, playful imagination, and an appetite for solving the hardest problems in service to the society and grails them to embrace responsible cohabitation with the environment. With a group of active practitioners and academicians, the students are trained in multidisciplinary disciplines which involves rigorous design studios and other theoretical subjects that aims to support the design thinking process. Our faculty undertakes a wide variety of projects and research areas to focus on research driven design practices.

Being a subject that requires immense input apart from the classroom learning, the department offers a host of opportunities for students to engage and learn from facilities beyond the classrooms. Workshops, lectures, seminars, conferences, participation in design competitions and other cultural activities are widely encouraged to have in view of the wide-open opportunities to build the creative pursuits of the students while building their professional careers.

The Vision of Department of Architecture at RIT is to make it a Centre of excellence in Architecture of international repute by moulding future generations of ethical professionals and creative designers to create sensitive and responsible built environments

Keeping the vision in mind, the department’s mission is to be committed to the following:

To celebrate the power of creative exploration, research, innovation and experimentation and encourage students to form thoughtful and imaginative solutions to the challenges confronting our society.

To prepare students for an engaging, inspiring and productive career in architecture and make them conceptual thinkers and skilled professionals who are well versed in the techniques and knowledge to create responsible built environment.

To guide students to interdisciplinary co-operation with allied fields in order to collaboratively address the complex spatial, economic, social and environmental challenges of practice and preparing them to be market ready for engaging fruitfully to contemporary professional practice.

To inculcate in students a strong context of professionalism striking highly on the relationship between intellectual development, technological advancement, and creative thinking with a strong emphasis on community service.
