Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering..
HOD: Prof. Johnson Mathew E-mail: hod.eee@rit.ac.in Established in 1991 The department offers a top-notch learning environment for electrical and electronics engineering. The department, which is housed in a separate building, aims to educate students on the most recent developments in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. With the demand for energy always growing and emerging fields of energy production, the degree offers many employment opportunities in India and abroad. The department is accredited by NBA in 2016-2019 and 2019-2022. The department offers four year B. Tech course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and M. Tech courses in Industrial Drives & Control and Power Systems and Renewable Energy. Additionally, the department provides a PhD programme. The department is an AICTE approved research centre under Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) and AICTE Doctoral Fellowship (ADF) schemes. The major areas of research are electric and hybrid vehicles, grid integration of solar and wind energy system, AI and ML applications in power system and power electronics, industrial drives and control and energy efficient systems. All the programmes are approved by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala. The B. Tech and M. Tech curriculum have been systematically designed to mould a competent Electrical engineer to cater the needs of industry and R&D. The curriculum is regularly updated to reflect advancements in contemporary heavy-duty machinery, power electronics, drives and controls, signal processing, power systems and control engineering. All campus-wide electrical maintenance and development projects are managed and carried out by the department. Admission Procedure Admissions for the B. Tech Program are based on rank list prepared by CEE, Govt. of Kerala. The rank list is generated using the score obtained by the student for the entrance examination conducted by Government of Kerala and marks obtained in the qualifying examinations. The department has a total intake of 60 students for the B. Tech in EEE with additional 6 seats for the lateral-entry students in the third semester. The post graduate program has an annual intake of 18 students in Industrial Drives and Control and 9 students in Power Systems and Renewable Energy. Admission to the M. Tech Program is based on either merit or valid GATE score. Facilities The department has 11 instructional laboratories and is well equipped with latest computational facilities. Students are motivated to pursue independently developed and innovative project works in the departmental laboratories by the state-of-the-art equipment, superior lab practises, and competent support staff. NaMPET sponsored Industrial Drives laboratory, Advanced research Laboratory with most modern research facility, FIST and MODROB supported advanced Power Electronic lab, Power System and Renewable Energy Laboratory are some of the highlights. The department library offers reference books and technical magazines for quick references. Department has a full-fledged computer centre with sufficient computing facility having broadband internet connectivity, which provides access to journals and e-books for students. The department periodically organizes seminars and workshops to train faculty and students on emerging research areas and trends in the area of Electrical Engineering. Under visiting faculty programmes, professors from premier institutes are invited to give lectures. In addition to supporting faculty development initiatives, TEQIP also funds the Equity Assurance Programme (EAP), which offers students scholarships and remedial classes. The TEQIP scheme's Industry-Institute Interaction Cell (IIC) routinely hosts workshops and speeches by industry professionals. Ever since its inception in 2006, IEEE student branch of RIT is one of the most vibrant student branch in Kerala Section managed by Electrical Engineering Department. It was entitled with Best Student Branch Award 2012 among colleges in Kerala. The Power and Energy Society, Robotic and Automation Society, and Industrial Application Society all have large numbers of active EEE students as members. The Electrical Association is another active platform for organizing and conducting technical festivals and project exhibitions. The department follows the best practises suggested by outcome-based education (OBE) and holds regular reviews with the help of the class committee, class PTA, and department advisory board. Evaluation of faculty by students are performed twice in a semester. Surveys are conducted among students, parents and alumni to evaluate the outcomes achieved. |
HOD's Desk![]() The department started in the year 1991 with a B.Tech. program having an intake of 40 students. Currently department student strength is approximately 260 for UG course and 36 for PG course. The department is a research centre under APJAKTU with more than 10 research scholars. The diverse field of knowledge of our faculty and the supportive teaching-learning environment offers a unique, valuable and powerful learning experience. Students are provided with opportunities for interaction with the experts from the Industry through Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Vocational Training (internships), projects, student chapters of International Professional bodies etc. Spacious green campus, good library and peaceful atmosphere ensure a wonderful learning experience. |
VisionTo be a centre of technological excellence in Electrical and Electronics Engineering for the betterment of society. Mission* To bestow high quality education through excellence in its faculty and facilities. |
