Career Guidance And Placement Cell (CGPC)

Career Guidance and Placement Cell is functioning in this college from 1997 onwards. All the students are expected to be members of this cell. The cell arranges campus Recruitment by various companies. Classes are also offered to the students on personality development, Communication skills, leadership qualities, interview skills, interpersonal relationship etc. In addition to this, CGPC provides information/guidance regarding higher education facilities in Engineering and Management at national and international universities.

RIT Placement Cell facilitates fusion of academic excellence with the needs of the corporate world. Theplacement cell has a rich tradition of pursuing excellence and has continuously reinvented itself Students areexposed to challenging research based academics, live interaction with inspiring leaders and high intensityskill development training programmes during their study tenure in the vibrant campus, to excel in thecompetitive professional environment. The Alumni of RIT are often sought after for coveted positions in therealm of business, academics and research. Placement cell associates with Industry Institute Interactive Cell(IIIC) for vigorous institute industry collaborations, industrial training programmes and internships. TheCGPC Office is well equipped with excellent infrastructure to support every stage of recruitment processRIT constantly maintains exemplary recruitment record. The graduates and post graduates are selected bynational and multinational cooperations and research institutes. Reputed companies such as Microsoft,Oracle, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, MRF, Idea Cellular, L&T and SPCL recruit students consistently from thecampus. RIT enjoys top position inthe ranking of reputed companies. Normally a near to 100% of the eligible students from all branches obtaincampus placements.CGPC highly value its partnership with recruiters, alumni and friends of RIT and remain committed to makingthe recruiting experience productive and positive. INDIAN SOCIETY FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION (ISTE)

Indian Society for Technical Education is a professional organization working for the improvement of technical education in the country. It attempts to bring in a total qualitative change in mind of personnel involved as well as techniques employed in the field of technical education. With students and faculty being members, ISTE Chapter of RIT is a vibrant body organizing fresher’s orientation programmes, industrial visits, career guidance courses, mock tests of CAT, GATE etc., invited talks, nature study camps, astronomy classes and star watch, to cite a few. Invited lectures on technically important subjects, workshops on hardware assembling, introduction class on AutoCAD, classes related to Management, stress handling etc. are usually conducted. The executive committee meets regularly to chart out the future activities. The chapter promotes two subsidiaries viz. Planning Forum and Science Club aimed at achieving the stated goal. Under this, student’s chapter is also functioning in this campus.

IEEE Student Chapter

The Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest professional organization, spanning over 165 countries with more than 4, 00,000 professional members. IEEE student branch of RIT is one of the most vibrant student branch in Kerala Section. It was entitled with Best Student Branch Award 2012 among colleges in Kerala. With a current strength of more than 140 members and more eager students wishing to join in from various trades of engineering, lEEE-RIT student branch has carved out a name for itself ever since its inception in 2006, and has a record of exemplary achievements. In its endeavour to create a rich pool of proficient cast, the student branch successfully moulded many professionals. Presently the branch is prospered with two societal chapters, the industrial application society, the computer society and also a woman in engineering affinity group, they too sustain the central theme of our branch and is working relentlessly in harnessing and nurturing the boundless youth potential.

IEEE Industry Applications Society (IES)

IEEE Industry Applications Society (IES) student chapter of this institution is the only student chapter in the Asia-Pacific. This platform enables the students to visit and interact with the academicians and peers in the other parts of the world. The Electrical Engineering Association is actively engaged in organizing academic and other technical events in the college. In association with the Industry Institute Interaction Cell, it bridges the gap between academic institutions and industry through knowledge transfer in the form of invited lectures, industrial visits, training programmes etc. This equips the students to undertake technological challenges in the society.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

The NSS has one unit bearing Unit No.158involving strong contingent of 100 volunteers. NSS has started functioning in this institution from 1997 onwards. The main motto of NSS is ‘Not Me but You’. The NSS aims at developing personality through community service. The NSS unit of RIT is headed by the programme officer assisted by a lady staff coordinator and two volunteer secretary’s one each from boys and girls. NSS is assisted by an advisory board consisting of Principal and all HOD’s. It has an executive committee consisting of two student representative from each class.

The activities that NSS take up are divided into two categories; 1) Regular activities 2) Special Camp activities. The regular activities include campus cleaning and beautification, orientation programme, community visit, tree plantation, educational programme, celebration of important days, service to public like road construction, awareness classes on the importance of blood donation, blood donation programme, measures for prevention of AIDS etc.,. NSS Unit organizes special camps with the help of local bodies. The seven day special camp includes Sramdhan, cultural programme in the selected ward of nearby Grama Panchayath. NSS also undertake socioeconomic and health survey in selected villages and remedial measures are suggested based on the data collected. It conducts cultural programmes and invited lectures on environmental and educational subjects. The NSS unit which has brought a cultural change in the campus spread RIT’s glory across the state through its noble activities.

THE RIT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (RITAAN)

The RIT Alumni Association (Reg. No. 127/04) started functioning in 2004. The General Body will meet regularly during the month of December every year. The Association has an elected executive committee of one year term. The executive committee will meet once in three months to review the progress of the decisions taken in General Body. The Association is publishing a quarterly news letter 'VAANI' to explore the College activities and achievements among the alumni. The Association is hosting a new website www.alumni.rit.ac.in. The Association has given financial support to launch Intranet in the College campus. Issue of scholarships to financially backward students with academic excellence, issue of Best Teacher Award to faculty, participation in charitable activities of the College, giving financial support to NCRIT and College union, lunch assistance to financially backward students etc. are some of the regular activities of the Association.

The objective of the Association is to maintain the contacts of the alumni of the Govt: Rajiv Gandhi Instituteof Technology Kottayam with alma mater and provide a forum for bringing together the old students of thecollege, so that they can contribute effectively to the cause of engineering education and research in thecountry. Association provide opportunities for developing entrepreneurship and practical knowhow amongthe graduating students and also to impart vocational and career guidance to them.RIT Alumni association maintaining website www.alumni.rit.ac.in .All passed out students directed to registerand keeping a good contact with the college Association publishing news letter VAANI quarterly and explorethe college activity among the alumni's outside the campus. ARTS CLUB

Arts club secretary is elected from the students. A Staff member is in-charge of Arts club. Cultural activities, competitions etc are organized within and outside the campus, to develop the inborn talents of students. College union fund is utilized. Additional funds are collected from sponsors.

SPORTS CLUB

Sports secretary is nominated by college union. A Staff member is in charge of sports club. Indoor and outdoor sports items are available. Competitions are conducted in college stadium.

CENTRE FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION (CCE)

The subcentre of CCE is functioning in RIT from March 2000 onwards. The centre conducts various technical courses, and also provides consultancy service to various government/ private organizations to carry out concrete mix design, soil investigation, analysis of water samples, structural, architectural and transportation designs etc. Various testing works and training programmes are also undertaken through CCE.

CERD SATELLITE CENTRE

Centre for Engineering Research and Development (CERD) is established by Government of Kerala to act as a platform for the faculty and students of engineering colleges in the State to pursue their interest in basic and applied research in Engineering and Technology.

The objective of CERD is to coordinate the research activities in various engineering colleges in Kerala and create an encouraging atmosphere for research. CERD provides seed money for research activities of staff members, financial assistance to student projects, financial assistance for establishing centre of excellence, Innovation centers, Incentives for publications, best researcher award and consultancy services.

A committee of Satellite Centre Programme Implementation Units (SCPIU) was constituted on 19" April 2010 for implementation of the Programme of CERD at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology Kottayam, with the Principal as the Chairman, Prof. George Thomas, Professor in Mechanical Engineering as the Professor in Charge of the Centre.

On-going programmes under SCPIU are:

1. Centre of Excellence - Advanced Digital Signal Processing Research Lab

2. Reseach Seed Money to faculty

3. Grand for student project

4. Incentives for Publication in International

5. Innovation centre

COUNSELLING CELL

The counseling cell has started in the year 2004. This aims to help the students who suffer different kinds of problems related to their studies, family etc. An Executive Committee governs the cell with Principal, faculties of various departments and PTA as members. The PTA of the institution gives the financial assistance to the cell. Every year the cell offers orientation programs to all the first year students (class-wise) to give awareness about counseling. The service of a counselor is available once (full day) in every week to counsel the needy students. Under the counseling cell the institution also avails the service of a Physician once (AN) in every week.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CLUB

The entrepreneurial motivation is one of the most important factors which accelerate the pace of economic development by bringing the people to undertake risk bearing activities. The need of the hour, therefore, is to make Entrepreneurship Development more effective by imparting relevant education, focusing on developing entrepreneurial competencies, skills in identifying a viable business opportunity and preparing business plan, knowledge on how to mobilize resources and manage an enterprise. Entrepreneurship Development Club (EDC) is started functioning in this institution from 2006. The various activities of the club are:

a. Organize workshop/debates.

b. Familiarize the youth to the latest development in business.

c. Interactive sessions with successful entrepreneurs.

d. Provide exposure to national and international events in various parts of the country related to industrial developments.

A general convener, conveners from each department and two student volunteers from each department are the office bearers. EDC helps to develop a rapport with the industry. Necessary funds are received from District Industries Centre and Government agencies.

SAE RIT Chapter

The college chapter of SAEINDIA in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam was form under Mr. Antony J K, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering as the faculty advisors on April 1st 2011 with 100 students members by guidance of Mr. J. T. KUNCHERIA the then Principal and Dr. R SASIKUMAR, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering of the college. The main aim of starting the chapter was for enriching knowledge base of the students of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology with developments and innovations in the automotive sector (Mobility Engineering). The purpose of the club is to increase the benefits of SAEINDIA student membership through special activities that include affiliation with the section and provide students with tangible contact with their future profession-engineering –and.in so doing. Further the objective of engineering education. The students themselves through the elected officers administer the chapter activities. Officers are counseled by the Faculty Advisors and SAEINDIA Vice-chair student activities, in the very the first year of club activities in the college. The chapter has offered great opportunities and exposure to the students. There were many factory visit, competitions, workshop organized by the SAEINDIA in which the students took part. Also the college has one of the best talent pools that the students can reach great height through the SAEINDIA. In fact Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology was having the highest representation of student’s members in the competition organized during STUDENT CONVENTION 2011. This year SAE RIT chapter is participating in the famous BAJA contest which provided SAE student members with the challenge project that involves design, engineering, planning, manufacturing and marketing the tasks found.

Technology Business Incubator

A Technology Business Incubator (TBI) was established as an integral part of the continuing R & D and consultancy services being rendered at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam (RIT). The objectives of TBI at RIT are:

1. To arrange EDP and EMD programmes for the students, professionals and personnel from industry and to arrange specialized training programmes for industry.

2. To act as a Management discussion forum for interaction among participating industries and intellectuals.

3. To arrange web enabled training programs through tie up with institutes of excellence both within and abroad, on the frontier areas of technology.

4. To undertake industry sponsored research.

5. To understand / identify talents from among the students of RIT and to create a human resources bank for the industry to utilize.

6. To provide all necessary assistance to prospective entrepreneurs, to sharpen their technology, assistance during start up, comprehensive quality assessment etc.
